Motivation
Motivation is a topic I really
wanted to address on here for several reasons. It was the reason I started this
blog in the first place. I was motivated to write to women in all walks of life
as a real wife, mom, daughter, friend, student and full-time employee. What
motivates me may not motivate all of you but I am hopeful at least a few
understand where I’m coming from.
My family is a HUGE motivation in my life,
providing for them is how I feel accomplished in this area. That means I work
hard and I am constantly signing myself up for several other things such as kid’s
sports, work projects, college where I fluctuate between part-time and
full-time depending on my work load. I’ve earned an associate’s degree already
and am just a few classes away from earning my bachelors in communication. If I’m
being honest I am almost scared to graduate because I’ve done work and school
for so long (like 8 years) that I’m not sure how I’ll feel when I don’t have a
million assignments due. This may be a weird fear to have but the motivation to
finish is what has gotten me through for so long. I keep asking myself what I’ll
do when I reach this accomplishment that felt impossible for years. Working
like crazy and studying before and after that has been one of the hardest
trials so far but reminding myself that it would be more painful to quit because
of the regret I would have has been a daily mantra. My husband reminding me of
the finish line and bringing a glass of wine when I was losing it was another
push I needed. My best friends talking me off the ledge during finals week when
the pressure of keeping my life together feels crippling is something so
special I can’t even explain. These relationships are my motivation.
Another area in my life where
I must stay accountable and motivated is in my fitness journey. I LOVE working
out but I also LOVE pizza…. and wine who’s with me? Having a husband that is very
fitness focused helps because he supports me spending time working on my goals.
That can mean going to the gym before or right after him, getting a home
workout in while he cooks dinner or takes the kids to practice etc. Exercising
is what keeps us sane between our jobs, our boys and daily life stresses. A
couple people I look up to in this area are Katy Hearn – she has an amazing app
that lets me customize workouts for what I need if its gym or home & there
are a bunch of options so I don’t waste time trying to think of things to do
last minute. Ally Love – she is a peloton instructor I absolutely love her spin
classes and the positivity she brings.
The information and media I
consume has also changed my perspective and my attitude. I really try to absorb
information and advice from people I admire or aspire to be because they have
gone through the steps to get to a place where I see myself in the future. I
also follow people on a similar journey because feeling along is just a
feeling. There are so many of us going through similar trials and struggling through
because we don’t have a tribe. A few people I look up to here are: Rachel
Hollis – her content has helped me realize that keeping my dreams a secret doesn’t
helping me reach them. Rachel also says that breaking promises to yourself is
the first detrimental habit you have to stop to reach your goals. We rarely
break promises to others so we have to treat ourselves with the same respect.
Ed Mylett – I love his tangible advice and everyday applications. Trent Shelton
– I got to hear him speak at RISE and his message to follow your calling is
helping me find mine. I hope you will join me on my journey, become part of my
tribe and remember you aren’t alone.
Love,
Sammi
