Being able to notice when you need to take a moment and step back from the hustle and bustle of life and reset yourself is so important. I find myself doing this a couple of times a year and those around me don't always understand. What I don't do is just shut myself and leave people wondering how I feel about my relationship with them is going. I like to have a conversation and let them know that I can't go to that particular event or volunteer to do that thing because I am focusing my time on myself at the moment.
If you are anything like me you have a million things going on at all times work, husband, kids, school, sports, friends, family etc. We can manage everything for a short period of time before we start to feel like we are going crazy. Take time each week to write down what you NEED to do that week and what you would LIKE to do that week. If you have a goal you are working towards try to set aside at least an hour a day to work on it or plan it out differently maybe 30 minutes per weekday and a couple of hours on the weekend. Just make sure that you are contributing to yourself at least as much as you contribute to volunteering for others. Doing this will help prevent resentment and burnout.
When I am feeling burnt out these are things I like to do:
1. Call a friend that I can bounce ideas off of over a glass of wine.
2. Read a book that is not work or school-related but helps me. Right now I am listening to the audiobook "The Skills" by Michal Husain
3. Stay in for a weekend and watch movies with my hubby and kids.
4. Get a good workout in to get those endorphins going.
5. Writing down accomplishments that I haven't given myself the credit for. Remembering those will lessen the anxiety of feeling like we are failing because we aren't.
I hope this helps you and gives you some new ideas. Let me know what other topics you would like me to write about.
Love,
Sammi Glamm
